I, unfortunately, spent several hours (10) in davenport yesterday. I was returning from a visit to the Chicago area. I stopped in Davenport to get gas and something to eat. All my credit cards, debit cards and cash were missing. I went to a bank, trying to cash a personal check from Hills Bank in Iowa City, Iowa. The bank refused. they refused to call, verify or even look at my identification. I stopped at several banks, check cashing companies and financial businessses. Several sent me to other places like HY-Vee, Walgreens, wal-Mart etc. No one was willing to help at all. Even though they knew I was stranded, expending some effort to assist a stranger was beyond everyone's capacity. I understand that businesses do not want to accept checks from strangers; however, perhaps a helping hand could have been offered. I finally wrote a check at one store, then another and then another, obtaining $20 in cash each time. Filling my car with gas, I forgot about eating. As I reached the Davenport city limits, I stopped the car and shook the dust and dirt from my shoes. I shall never come back to your city, and I'll do everything I can to tell others about my terrible experience at the hands of Davenport business people. They were eager to take my check if I was buying something, but not to help me out. Shame on you!
