Key Lime Hair Salon on the corner of the alley adjacent to Wicks Pizza on Bardstown Rd. isn’t flashy, there no cheap gimmicks or flashing neon signs begging for attention. In fact since I have lived down the alley, a block away from the very corner it sits on, for approximately 4 months and come out of that alley daily, to get to Bardstown rd. I had never noticed the salon. I mean honestly, it's not like the highlands doesn’t have a hair salon on every block, around every other corner, with store fronts facing Bardstown Rd., considered prime locations. Many have come and gone and/or changed scissor, hands, owners and there is a new group of stylist fresh out of the hair school, which faces Bardstown Rd., cycling through every few months. Yet, this quaint, classic salon, off the beaten path of one of the busiest streets in this city has been there for 15 years with one owner, Brian who has a devoted, established client base. I won’t make assumptions or place any bets without having the knowing the statistics but I would challenge any one to find another salon that has sustained that long without changing owners in the Highlands, maybe even in the city. That in and of itself says volumes about this tucked away on a side street salon.
I doesn’t need to be gaudy or extravagant on the outside when it is exquisite inside with stylists who have mastered their art. You’ll find no tanning beds but you’ll stretch out on a long curved bed while your hair is washed. Nice! You won’t find 20 different product lines that flood the market promising new growth, extra shine or a new and improved 10 times over but you will find professional stylist who offer their clients the expertise of their craft that makes us feel more beautiful or handsome or ten years younger, it’s their magic, and it can’t be bottled up and sold on a shelf, nor have I personally found it in too many who do it as a job instead of a career.
Key Lime Salon is a true treasure. Ferrell specializes in straight edge shaves for men
With his beautiful antique barber chair, straight out of the Sweeny Todd era, hot towels and a steady hand he makes your shave an enjoyable experience as well as one that is rarely offered anywhere in the world these days. Some things are timeless classics, so gentlemen if you want a shave that is as close as before you ever shaved and/or you want a shave on your head that will last longer than you can do it with a mach 3, you’ll find pleasure in this perfect shave. The barber won’t be just about a hair cut anymore.
This is not the salon for everyone, nor does it want to be, which is precisely why it is as successful as it is, right where it is, uniquely it’s own with 4 of Louisville’s top stylist and the credentials to back them, I am ecstatic that my friend Ferrell has found his niche here and now has my devotion in his client book. I strongly encourage anyone looking for something special, for a place to find beauty, just off the beaten path, take this side street off Bardstown Rd. and see if you find it there.
