When we bought our grand 1860s townhouse, we thought all it needed was fresh paint and rebuffed floors. Little did we know. To make is a comfortable home by todays standards, what it really needed was a renovation - which unfourtunatly became apparent only after we moved in.

For 2-1/2 years running, Michael Bruder worked his magic to modernize and upgrade almost every inch of the house, inside+out. Everything from the mundane (changing doorknobs, adding weatherstrip) to the large-scale (constructing walls of closets, transforming a closet into a laundrywith new plumbing and through-the-walls venting, totally replacing the master bathroom, rebuilding a second-story deck and reinforcing the adjoining wall), all in keeping with the character of the architecture and its style.

Michael Bruders work is top-quality; detailed, finely crafted, well-planned. He is creative and respectful in approach. As importantly, though the demands of the house seemed to multiply at every turn, Mr. Bruder stayed at it, and because his projects took place while we were already living in the house, he worked around us with consideration, respect, and patience.
